Goodbye Midnight: A Playful Font for Creative Projects

There I was, staring at a blank brand board, trying to figure out how to bring a new café concept to life. The client wanted something warm, approachable, and just a little bit quirky. After a few rounds of sketches and mood boards, I landed on a font that felt right—Goodbye Midnight.

Goodbye Midnight is a playful and casual handwritten font that brings a sense of personality to any design. It’s not overly formal or rigid, which makes it perfect for brands that want to feel more human and less corporate. The strokes are soft, the curves are gentle, and there's a natural flow that gives it a handcrafted look. It feels like it was written with a pen, not a keyboard.

I started by testing it on a logo draft. The first thing I noticed was how it added a unique character to the typography. It wasn’t too busy, but it had enough detail to stand out. I paired it with a simple sans serif for the tagline, and the contrast worked well. The handwritten font gave the brand a friendly vibe, while the clean typeface kept things balanced and readable.

As I moved into packaging design, I saw how Goodbye Midnight could work in different sizes and contexts. On a coffee bag, it looked great as a headline, adding a personal touch without overwhelming the design. On a label sticker, it brought a whimsical feel that matched the café’s aesthetic. It also worked well on social media graphics, where bold, eye-catching text is key.

One of the things I appreciate about Goodbye Midnight is how versatile it is. It can be used as a display font, a logo font, or even an accent font depending on the project. In my case, it became the main typeface for the café’s visual identity, from business cards to signage. It didn’t feel out of place in any context, which is a big plus when building a cohesive brand system.

Readability was a concern at first, especially for longer text. But I found that using it in short-form applications—like headlines, quotes, or captions—worked best. When used in larger sizes, it maintained its charm without sacrificing clarity. For body text, I switched to a more traditional serif font to ensure the message remained legible and professional.

Goodbye Midnight also has a nice set of alternates and ligatures, which made it easier to customize the look for different parts of the brand. I played around with some of the stylistic options to give the typography a more refined feel. It was a small tweak, but it made a noticeable difference in the overall design.

When working with clients, I always recommend testing fonts before committing to them. I created a few mockups with Goodbye Midnight and showed them to the client. They loved how it felt authentic and aligned with their vision. It wasn’t just about the look—it was about the emotion and storytelling the font brought to the table.

Font pairing is another important consideration. I found that Goodbye Midnight pairs well with both serif and sans serif fonts. For a more classic look, I used a traditional serif, while for a modern twist, I went with a clean sans serif. Each combination offered a different tone, allowing me to adjust the design based on the project’s needs.

Goodbye Midnight comes in multiple weights and styles, which is helpful for creating a consistent visual language. I used the regular weight for most of the branding materials, but I also experimented with the bold version for headlines and posters. It gave the designs a bit more punch without losing the font’s casual charm.

From a technical standpoint, the font includes support for multiple languages, which is a bonus for any global brand. It also comes in standard file formats, making it easy to integrate into design software. Licensing is straightforward, which is good news for designers who need to use it in commercial projects.

Overall, Goodbye Midnight is a great addition to any designer’s toolkit. It’s not the kind of font you’d use for everything, but when the right project comes along, it can make a big impact. Whether it’s for a café, a boutique, or a creative studio, it adds a personal and artistic touch that other fonts might not.

I’ve used it in a variety of design applications, from print to digital, and it never failed to deliver. It’s a font that feels alive, with a personality that fits well with casual, fun, and expressive branding. If you’re looking for a way to add a little more warmth and character to your designs, Goodbye Midnight is definitely worth considering.
